Yesterday I found out that I made it into the Nike Womens Marathon! Since it is was a random drawing of some 22,000 people (the number amazes me) I am excited to be a part of it. I am now thinking that sometime in the future I am going to have to start bumping up miles, but not yet. In the near future, April 11th, is the "Pear Blossom 10 miler" in Medford Oregon. I am looking forward to running this and putting more than a 10K under my belt in the last 10 years.
Today my 9th grade daughter, Chelsa, had her first tennis game. I have to admit that tennis was not something I played in high school and it was fun to watch her out on the court.
After the game the weather decided to take a turn for the worse and the wind and rain started. Hoping that tomorrow is better as I had hoped to do a run and a ride. May have to drag out rain gear and quit being a fair weather runner, that or use the treadmill. Yuck!
Last night was also the "basketball marathon" for the elementary school. Three hours of b-ball and a walk-a-thon to raise money for school. Mikayla not only played 3 b-ball games but walked 3 1/2 miles! The kid is the energizer bunny. Mom needs a little of that energy.

Winter or Spring?
The last few weeks have been alternating between sunny, warm temperatures in the 50's to cold, freezing days in the 20-30's. Our weather is fickle. I realize it is only early March but spring fever is officially here!
Earlier this week I registered for the random drawing with 30,000 other people for the Nike Women's Marathon in S.F. in October. Now the wait until the 20th to see if I am one of the 22,000 people chosen. (That number is 1/2 of the county I live in!) Training continues, thanks to Rachel who every Sunday texts me my next weeks plan. Otherwise I would sit in the house by the fire, telling myself it was too cold to go outside.
This is the view I have every time I run or bike. It is amazing and beautiful but don't be fooled, even though there is sunshine is was less than 30 degrees this morning. The cows were shivering and were huddled together for warmth! I almost stopped to join them.

The Big 40
Today I did something I have not done in almost a decade. I went to work, no I do that more often than I care to admit, came home and went for a run. Why is that a noteworthy event you may ask? Because today I begin the next decade of my life. One that I am sincerely hoping will include the running routine I have developed over the last 2 months. Today at work I noticed the huge difference in people who have remained active over their life vs. those who have chosen a different path. I know that is something I see on a daily basis but today everything seemed to stand out more. Perhaps because everyone kept reminding me that I was turning 40! I did spend the time after work and do something that I love and look forward to. . .
I got a pedicure ! Notice the I am dreaming of Spring weather!

Girls Nite
Friday night we celebrated the end of the month with a girls night out which started at the Etna Brewery . . . . (Blackberry Blondes)
And ended at Corrigan's.
What an excellent way to have fun with friends and a night out we all needed.
I am happy to say that I have been consistent during February with my running (thanks Rachel) and even got the bike out last Friday. The weekend, when I planned to do more running outside has turned not only cold but windy, which is much worse in my humble opinion. So, it was me and my 'ol friend the treadmill. I was introduced to "Bricks" last week and now know why I will not be doing a tri in the future, that and I don't swim.
My month:
Run: 55 miles
Bike: 9.5 miles

One Hundred!
Today I broke 100 miles in my running. I started again in January so it is not the amount of miles that will get me into a marathon today, but it will come October. Today was a hell day meaning that it was speed work. Which the last two weeks as been pyramids, the last time I did speed work (prior to Rachel assigning it weekly since mid-Jan) was in high school! I was a sprinter, once around the track was a killer for me so this 53 minute workout leaves me drained tomorrow. I have spent too much time on my treadmill and plan on my Friday run being outside come hell or high water (don't have to worry about that one as we are having a drought). The treadmill is good for speed workouts but much more than that is cruel! How people can train for marathons solely on treadmills is beyond me, but more power to them.
Next weekend we will be going to Seattle for a medical conference and I am looking forward to getting in some runs while there. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and not be too cold and rainy, then again, I will happily run in the rain!

Snow!
We got a few good runs in down out driveway, then today turned out to be overcast but warm, so bye-bye snow. Tonight we should be getting a storm but as of now we just have the wind, no rain, no snow, no sleet, and sadly no more sledding.
